Fire Safety Awareness for Children(GAD Summer Kids Activity 2011)
The Fire Safety Awareness for Children was conducted on May 18-20, 2011 wherein thirty young children who are dependents of BFP R4-A personnel participated on the said event.

There is more in the education of children than the everlasting iteration of the word "don't!". This program geared with the objective on training and educating young children on the disadvantages and advantages of fire and at the same time the nature of work of their parents and relatives who are member of the Bureau of Fire Protection.

During the first day, facilitators focused on teaching about what are the necessary things to do in case of fire. The basic drill; STOP, DROP and ROLL if their clothes are on fire were also taught to them. Firefighting tools were demonstrated to the participants and eventually encourage them to have a hands-on experience on using the fire extinguisher.

The next day started with a lecture on the other forms of calamities such as earthquake and tsunami followed by an earthquake drill. Fire safety tips were presented to the participants and was discussed to them about the mechanical advantage during rescue operations. Children were thrilled on the simulation of the rescue operation wherein the members of the BFPR4-A SRU pulled-up each participant using pulleys, ropes and harness.

On the last day, the kids had a tour at FNTI premises where they were briefed about the training facilities. They were trained to operate the nozzle and suppress fire.

The three-day fire safety awareness activities educated the children about their important roles in the field of fire prevention as well in the other forms of calamities. It also highlighted the women firefighters role as fire safety educators for they were utilized as teachers and trainers.
