The Bureau of Fire Protection Region 4-A conducted the Urban Fire Olympics 2011, 21st Encounter on March 31, 2011 at the PNTI Parade Ground, Camp Vicente Lim, Calamba City. It was one of the highlights for the culmination of the Fire Prevention Month Celebration with this years theme: Kahandaan sa Sunog, Tungo sa Kaunlaran with the DILG R4-A first female Regional Director, DIR. JOSEFINA CASTILLA-GO as Guest of Honor and Speaker. This Urban Fire Olympics 21st Encounter introduced a new game dubbed as Non-stop Defense Response Challenge, which was conceptualized from the initials of the first female Regional director of BFP R4-A, in the person of CSUPT NIMFA D CUARTEL, the first and only female general of the BFP. Moreover, this UFO was a manifestation of active involvement of the industrial and barangay fire brigades as a proof is the increasing number of participating teams and outpouring support and assistance of Asia Brewery Inc., Tanduay Distillers Inc., and Safeway Fire Safety Specialist. Although, it is a one day activity it certainly promotes camaraderie among the competitors and significantly understand the value and importance of what the firefighters are doing just to save lives and properties. Thus, the people may know the dangers and hazards of destructive fires.
In line with the celebration of the Womens Month, female uniformed personnel were given the chance to show their firefighting skills. It was definitely breathtaking seeing them played the Busted Hose replacement and Obstructed Firefighting, Wild Hose Recovery, Saving Ryan and the Tug of War.
As expected it was a day of fun fare and healthy athletic rivalry.Special awards were given out to participating teams. For the Best in Uniform, San Miguel Yamamura bagged the prize for Industrial Category followed by Barangay Balagtas Fire Brigade for Barangay and Rizal BFP for Uniformed Category respectively. Miss UFO 2011 trophies were given to Ms. Regine Batacan of Nestle Cabuyao for Industrial Category, Ms. Angel De Omampo of Batong Malake for Barangay Category and to FO1 Sheila Jill Castillo of the Province of Laguna for the Uniformed Category.
